we left herva & dukwa with a bunch of bangers with their latest ep -it fell down-… we found em back only after few months with their first lifes track longer player featuring an impressive variety of styles but always with their unmissable, raw and twisted up touch. this album of 8 tracks, spread in one twelve and a seven inches, starts on a side with the funky break of -needed-, continuing with the deep driving moment of -amore- and the hip hop beat of -put it on-. on the flip side instead we find the catchy vocal riff of the stomping roller called -freak with us- followed by the soulful ghetto tech vibe of “call it you” and the melancholic, romantic, stoned and rotten lullaby of -tired brass-. more tasty and unusual grooves are included in the tiny wax which close the record up, on a side the peaceful, abstract, suspended and atmospheric dimensions of * play with me* and on the other the glow-fi-sh and -emo--tech wave of -venere-. unmissible!
so bahnsteig is arrived! paenz?r style from the flanken. next is eastern bruder, romania youth, khidja. vibrations with wunderbar music on emotional especial and forgotten corners, they give us balearic, neu wave and kraut explosionens. 4 edits is a taste of their opening. infinita will make you bop in aisles. stehen nur noch. twist, schrie. then geist, is droll s house. britisch indie for dunkel fun. schleife de schleife. utsici is the jam. go. woop. verschossen for finale. the heimkehr. can you tanz? was auch immer.

the peer pressure ep from the under-rated mark forshaw finds scenery records once again highlighting the rich strain of local production talent in the liverpool area. involved in the merseyside scene since the 90s, forshaw has released on labels like mathematics, tabernacle and apartment and is also a member of phantom planet outlaws with john heckle and binny. if you ve checked forshaw s prior output you will be happy with peer pressure as soon as the grubby, jacked up house of the title track hits its groove, with his four other cuts heading down a similarly unpredictable path. kudos to scenery for seeking out swedish producer daniel andreasson to remix the title track too! this is another no nonsense ep from scenery that is lovably rugged and unpredictably creative
reset robot is back on truesoul with an exquisite 4 track ep. exploring his signature deep and funky tech-house vibes, reset robot has used percussion and synth stabs to create a deep, underlying groove throughout this ep. tickled with hooks throughout the ep, there is a defining character within each track, in particular lost in a duvet with its unique piano hook that you will stay with you for days.
spanish techno purveyors exium make their debut on detroit underground with a smashing ep of thunderous, mind-altering techno. from the restrained beginning of true force, you might not know you are in for shock therapy, but midway through the a1 cut, the intent becomes clear.
fumiya tanaka s double-tracker >beautiful town< was fully inspired by its cover artwork: a set of carefully selected old pictures with a layer of masterful signature paintings by romanian artist and fine-arts student bonjour bonsoir. a-sides >abacus avenue< is the ep’s most dense and eerie side. an addictive piece that utterly succeeds in sucking you right in like a vortex would. the locomotive bassline serves its purpose of movement in a strong loopy groove, while the pads and poltergeist y sounds reformat our heads with an inability for space-time tracking. the otherside of this town, >himegami marathon<, is another mysteriously intricate work. its a microcosm of grooves, sinister details and voices locked in a tight groove built on a single bass stab and a flowing, never-ending set of wet claps. a piano kicks in at key points, alongside percussive elements, reminding us that this town is alive.

it’s not often that a breakthrough producer manages to cause major hype after just one release but when that artist is from the uk, putting out a brilliant ep on moodymann’s mahogani music, you start to realize how it happened in dan shake’s case. now its time for dan to build on this incredible start and from the way things are looking it’s safe to say it’s all going in the right direction. another rising star from the uk is wolf music regular medlar who has been making serious waves the last 5 years. remixes for the likes of glenn astro and disclosure have all helped put him in the spotlight and his debut lp sleep from 2013 delivered in spades. so when the news that these two were joining forces for a collaborative project reached us here at d.o.g we wanted in on the action.

2015 repress ...walk on in, walk on in, walk on in…. these are the words you ve no doubt heard reverberating around clubs and festivals all year. the man behind this gospel-powered beast is none other than welsh-born, berlin residing doc daneeka. walk on in will be released on 4th november on limited vinyl and digital, with the slightly darker but equally demolition friendly b-side trife pt ii. support so far from jamie xx, joy orbison, oneman, jd twitch, will bankhead and panorama bar stalwarts nick hopner and nd baumecker.

drawing from the leftfield avant-pop of arthur russell and talking heads, progressive disco of nile rodgers and contemporary ambient electronica, retiree channel these influences through their own pervasive aura of rum-drunk antipodean sunshine. the result is music that is in equal parts lush, thoughtful melody and meditative tropical rhythm. the ep sees joint international release from peckham label rhythm section international who released the instant classic debut of al dobson jr, and were nominated for label of the year at gilles peterson s 2015 worldwide awards, as well as purveyors of southern hemisphere groove-driven underground pop, plastic world (gl, savoir).

berlin head mike davis drops four tracks of uncompromising techno taking inspiration from the raw side of house music and 90 s 303 acid culture, what makes this collection stand out is its freeness. it could be argued that the structure and arrangements fall more in line with jazz than traditional techno. mike manages to avoid the constraints of techno production and delivers natural yet unpredictable arrangements. themes and moods change throughout taking you on a journey through berlin via detroit.
secret stashs *twin cities* compilation rekindled the career of minneapolis soul singer sonny knight, who only released one 7 inch back in 1965. this album was 50 years in the making, with a new energetic & young backing band in tow his dynamic presence and vocal power quickly returned! real organic soul!

bristol based borai kicks off volume 4 with thinking of you, a clean, classic take on house music. strongly recognized for his productions on labels like chicago s tasteful nudes, retrofit and needwant, borai s contribution to volume 4 continues his ode to classic deep house with upbeat drums and straightforward melodies that nod to the new york & new jersey anthems of yore.
up first, juice machine is a barreling cut with pinging drums that ride up and down in infectious style. carefully treated vocals echo up top and add a dub flavour as subtle rave horns and old school motifs also colour the groove. when remixed by re.you, the track becomes a more subdued, deeper cut with spraying synths and a sense of late night paranoia in the grooves. lastly, badass acid is a minimal cut with warm pads, hiccuping sine waves and a growing sense of synthetic tension. it s a masterful bit of slow burning craftsmanship that has icy hi hats to die for.
legendary bronx-bred hip-hop duo camp lo burst onto the scene in 1997, when their classic debut album uptown saturday night (and its anthemic single *luchini*) introduced fans to the los intricate flows and cutting-edge slang editorials. nearly two decades later, geechi suede and sonny cheeba are back with ragtime hightimes, a brand new album produced by longtime collaborator ski beatz. the album finds camp lo and ski beatz pushing past boundaries while staying true to their creative vision.
household name riva starr teams up with long time friend santos to make their debut on the mighty hot creations, featuring original chicago legend dj pierre and accompanied by a davide squillace remix.
jef ks silver network springs a surprise on the label s followers with a slightly darker offering than fans may be used to. part of jef s ethos is to shake things every once in a while to avoid becoming stale, so he decided to sign this super fresh cut from ludovic vendi and olive_r. nosh is a fidgety, morose production with unsettling beats and the constant mutter of voices lurking in the background.

yoruba records is happy to release this dance floor ready ep by label head osunlade. stretching across a range of styles theres something for everyone in this release, an absolute must for every djs bag. the ep opens up with the title track, what pho. a relaxing jam driven by a powerful sounding grand piano and complimented by shakers, the added backing percussion and subtle bird chirps lend well to the creation of this tracks rainforest-esque mystique. next up is the deep, almost jazzy track – jus anuda groove. the rolling bass line and four to the floor beat will get you moving – and keep you there - as osunlade reminds us that this is just another groove. opening up the b-side is schavanna, a funky, guitar-driven track whose pulsating bass line and friendly but muffled vocals will keep people moving on the floor. finally, the ep closes with the waiting game, a hypnotic, tribal-learning track with a foot-stomping beat, colored with the seductive vocals of rainy payne, its hard to tell which is more captivating, the groove itself or the story line she unfolds.
pittsburgh track authority return with a new single-sided limited edition edits record on the imprint that bears only their own logo. “i always wanted to be in a band” kicks things off in an early 70s soul jazz style, with infectious vocals and catchy horns doing the damage. next, a flute driven cover of the dance classic “lowdown” keeps the disco-funk vibes of the original but with added springtime/summer vibes. both of these have done damage for pta at their gigs, and now they can do damage for you at yours. a fitting end to the magenta logo series!
